Would life be easier if we all just followed a script? If our lives were already determined for us? What do you do when you have no idea if you can continue to handle the load of the “self” on your own? Lanette is faced with the terrifying reality of growing up, yet feeling that she hasn't been growing at all. In fact, instead of growing, she feels stagnant. Lost and at a loss. She has no idea where her life is going, and she’s starting to lose herself in trying to. Brionna McDonald is able to masterfully mix the mundane with the absurd in her new developing play There’s Bigger Fish in the Sea, and It’s Not You. In this scene, we see both. One second we’re in Lanette and Charlie’s living room, we’re pulled into a different reality entirely in the next. One cannot exist without the other. Just as how the “real” world can feel nonsensical, the most ridiculous of displays can be the moments that are most rooted in reality.
